On May 25th of this year a great event is happening. Where is it happening? Everywhere! If you check out http://www.march-against-monsanto.com you will find marches organised to protest against the giant corporation that is Monsanto. All over the World marches are scheduled. We must make our feelings felt. Not only to Monsanto but also to our governments, for they are the ones allowing Monsanto to infiltrate our farms, gardens and allottments.
Tami Monroe Canal, creator or the now viral Facebook page March Against Monsanto, says she was inspired to start the movement to protect her 2 daughters. “I feel Monsanto threatens their generations health, fertility and longevity. I could’nt sit by idly, waiting for someone else to do something.”
My own reason for supporting this movement is because I believe in freedom. Freedom to grow my own food, food that I feel happy to eat. Freedom to save seeds from the plants that I grow. Freedom to distribute them as I please among other growers. Monsanto wants to curtail these freedoms, because these freedoms don’t put money in their pockets. In the European Parliament on Monday next Regulation on Plant Reproductive Material goes before the EU Commissioners. Hopefully our freedoms will be upheld. Whatever happens I shall continue to grow and save seeds from crops that I have been growing out for years. Crops that are acclimatised to our climate and soil conditions. Many others will do the same. More power to them!!
Recently in America, the Obama administration passed the so called “Monsanto Protection Act,” that amongst other things, bans courts from halting the sale of Monsanto’s GM seeds. I find that shocking. Governments used to be elected to protect the interests of citizens. Now citizens are consumers and law makers and corporations work hand in glove with each other.
People are starting to wake up…to shout “NO.”
Peru has passed a 10 year ban on GM foods.
Hungary has banned GM seeds. It was recently discovered that 1000 acres of maize were growing from GM seeds. They were immediately ploughed under. Good for you Hungary!
Make your feelings known. March on May 25th. Let Monsanto and our governments know that we will not accept the rule of Monsanto.
There are Irish marches against Monsanto in Dublin and Cork. The Dublin march starts at the Garden of Remembrance and onto the Dept of Agriculture.
Thank you for sharing this. I will go look at the blog link embedded in your post.
Thank you so much for this info. Will check this out and do what i can.

This is an excellent blog post by an Irish gardener who is passionate about preserving our freedom to grow our own food, save seeds and avoid the very frightening bid for global food domination by Monsanto corporation and GMO seeds.
Monsanto is the most evil of all the GM companies one only has to look back at their history, somehow they have managed to get most governments in their pockets, how is anyone’s guess, threats or bribes?
The major supermarkets are now saying that their own brands will no longer be GM free as it is too hard to source GM free ingredients and that the government has assured them that there is no harm to health by consuming GM’s, this is of course on the say so of the GM companies.
Consumers have time and time again said they do not want GM’s in their food, their voices are now being ignored. Not everyone has land in which to grow their own food and not everyone one can afford to buy only Organic. Choice has been removed, I would love to think that our governments would listen to us, the people, they are supposed to represent us, instead they line their own pockets and bow down to the big corporations.
Sadly Anne, you are right. Citizens are now looked on only as consumers. Governments, well what can I say…the are just puppets for the big corporations. Can it change? We must try. Otherwise we just give up and succumb to these corporate bully boys.
Thanks for the info. I HATE MONSANTO. That’s why I don’t like Obama any more. I thought he was at least a little bit different. He is same with no backbone and all corrupt.
Shame about Obama, people had such faith in him. What a letdown!

Well said, Bridget.
sadly I too think Anne is right, big brother is a big bully, thanks for posting Bridget, Frances
I hadn’t heard about the march against Monsanto, thanks for highlighting it Bridget – off to follow your link to their web page now…
So glad you posted this. I will definitely join the March against Monsanto. Truly a frightening and diabolical corporation that clearly has our governments in its back pocket!
this is appalling and surely must infringe our human rights – not sure how they can uphold these rules – the little man must fight against it.
Fight we must. We must also spread information like this, so many people just don’t know about this stuff until it’s too late. Corporations are working hard to control us all through lobbying and back handers to our legislators.
Hi Bridget, one of my readers alerted me to the fact that the link is not going where it should. Can you update the link to http://www.march-against-monsanto.com/ in your post? Thanks!
Hi Shawndra, I’ve updated it now. Left out the www. Thanks, Bridget.
Thank you for raising your voice too. Neither global corporation, the EU or any national government will us saving and sharing our own seed.
Do you know what time it sets off in Dublin Bridget?
Starts from Garden of Remembrance at 2 o clock. We are going to go up on the train from Boyle.
I will have to stay here because of the animals but Simon is planning on going.
Thanks for sharing Bridget. I’m so disappointed with Obama. Seems he is just like all the rest…
I think in his heart Obama is disappointed with himself.
I think Obama is just one in a long, long list of political puppets, who do as they’re told by the corporatocracy, Big Pharma, Big Food, Monsanto, and of course, the banksters. Sickening, all of them. And don’t even get me started on what I think of the EU.
It is truly disgusting and horrifying what is going on all around our world – between GMOs, chemtrails in our skies and fluoride in our water supply. The only thing we can and must do is let our feelings be known and our voices heard – as many voices and as loud as possible.
You’re so right June. The corporate interests are now running the governments, and not just in America. As to the Eu, their main objective seems to have been to disincentivise farming by giving farmers subsidies for everything. Get rid of the small family farms and let the big corporations govern our food.
